Batters use pine tar and it’s not seen as cheating (except for one famous occasion). Rules are rules and I understand the punishments for pitchers now but if you can use a substance to grip the bat there’s not a lot of separation to me when a pitcher does it.

It's funny though, if a batter uses a corked bat I think most people see red. But a pitcher scuffs the ball, not so much.
