Seems every one of your points above could be made about a number of sports cards as well, particularly the non-mainstream sports. Your second point applies directly to sports as well. eBay and auction houses will always have cards listed as rookies that are not, for higher prices or just out of ignorance.

Soccer is another sport where there is confusion over rookies.
