To Mark and all other interested collectors:
Checking in with my award-winning framer John, he sparingly uses wheat starch paste (likely available at Michael's), the water-soluble adhesive, that he uses to adhere paper items to an archival backing.

The way he describes his method is this:
Start with a small glob of wheat starch paste that he places on a separate piece of paper. Literally use the head of a needle to add a microdot of wheat starch paste to all four corners of whatever paper item you plan on attaching to the acid-free backer in the framed piece.
