You have a point. If Ruth wasn't in the set, I wonder what the interest in the other cards would be. It is a rare set for type collectors, but so is something like 1911 Western Playground Association, and common cards from that set do not go for 10K apiece. That may not be the best analogy, but I do think that if this was just the run of the mill rare type set, the individual cards would not go for as much.
