NC local show at an elementary school off the beaten path. I'm going to guess 100 tables, less than a quarter of it was vintage. I will admit to being turned off by obviously overpriced stuff: One very OC '55 Topps Jackie Robinson in an SGC 2.5 was stickered at roughtly 2x recent sales. Another guy had fairly nice lower grade slabs (PSA 2 and 3) of some early 60's Mantles I wouldn't have minded picking up. When he came down to his "best" price - he was still in the neighborhood of $100 or so high on each card compared to recent sales. I guess my poker face wasn't too great and he inquired - so I politely told him he was high and what I thought a reasonable price would have been. I then got treated to some kind of convoluted explanation "Hey, I have to pay retail too and then I have to make a profit..." Uh, what? So I should pay you a retail price PLUS a premium for coming to the show? No thanks. I don't care that the cards were nicely centered for the grade; if I pay you a 4 price for a card in a 2 or 3 slab, I may like the card still - but I'm going to go home unhappy with the price I paid and a bad taste in my mouth. As I've done this before, I am not making the same mistake again...

I digress. I was able to find the cards below that I thought were priced accordingly with dealers who were willing to negotiate for sales and not there just to run a museum. The Killebrew has some kind of bend or line over the top of his cap, but otherwise is a very nicely centered and colored 3. The Robinson doesn't look nearly that bad in person; my amateur photography skills just captured all the snow in full reflection. That one is wearing a wrinkle, but the price was right. It turned out to be a decent day after all - it's rare that I get to pickup HOF rookie cards that I've never owned before - in any grade.
