There are two personal log books from people on this trip in Robert Edwards Auction archives. Both include many signatures. If Ty Cobb was on it it would be reflected in one if not both of those...he is not in either one and I found no evidence suggesting he went on this trip at all. He would be present in the two big photographs of everyone who went on the trip and he is not in either of those. It is not Ty Cobb.

Several other baseball related people did go on it including executive Thomas Lynch, former players Joe Farrell and Fred Pfeffer, writers such as Comiskey's future Biographer GW Axelson.

Your best bet is look at the big photo I posted and see if you can match the man in the suit to someone in it...I saw maybe one guy it could be but not real sure...then you would know if it was someone with the party or just a passenger.

Also the ship is probably the RMS Express of Japan

I will note one player was on the tour but doesnt appear in a lot of modern things written about the teams, Andrew Andy Slight, I was only able to find one photo of him and I dont think he is in this picture of yours but not sure.
