St. Louis would be a fun idea. A very underrated city to me, and has always been one of the friendliest in my experience. It doesn't shave off much travel time vs. Chicago for people who are coming from all points west, but every little bit helps.
I personally didn't enjoy Anaheim, but you're either a California person or you're not. I remember the heat too.
Speaking of heat (and forgive me for mentioning it again), but that Baltimore-DC corridor has the absolute worst heat I've ever experienced in my life. It's a special kind of awful. I wish I could be more of a fan of Baltimore, as its history is to be greatly respected. The suburbs are fine and the people have been generally great. I just can't get into that ghetto. Same with DC. It's strange, as some inner cities don't bother me as much, and they're certainly as bad.
