I met Joe DiMaggio at an event at the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital here in Florida many years ago. Perfect gentleman. Graciously signed a ball (I still have it among my treasures) and even allowed my daughter to snap a photo of me and him together (my greatest baseball thrill and it's an actual photo that is in one of my photo albums). He didn't charge one cent for the privilege. Surly? Rude? Absolutely not, totally the opposite. I think, from what I have read, that if you came across as an obnoxious jerk that was just going to turn around and sell whatever you wanted him to sign, he would be the same way. And there's nothing at all wrong with that, in my humble little old opinion.
