Crossed another of my literary favorites off my list, the image from Domenichino’s painting The Last Communion of St. Jerome. I read Jerome a lot in my teens and learned much of my poor Latin from his Vulgate; his simplicity and straightforwardness is easier going than some of the Pagans of more beautiful prose like Cicero. There are not usually that many pre-war cards of the ancients to pick from.
