I think the reason they do this is that they got it into their collective heads that once they ship the card, it's the grading company's problemm, because the grading company has a guarantee.

If you get a bad card in a PSA or SGC slab, there is no written guarantee that they'll do anything for you, but the odds are good that you can have something done about it.

This is less true of BGS cards, and not at all true of cards in any other slab, as far as I know.

I've taken returns on graded cards (someone sent one back to me exactly once), and I've returned them to sellers upon a few occasions. Teletrade takes them back. In another case I returned one to Sportscards Plus.

In a few cases I've asked eBay sellers to guarantee their graded cards, because I don't want to get a card with bad register, which doesn't show up very well on a scan. Some will and some won't.
