We don't know whether he is ignorant or not. I don't think he paid an unreasonable price for the card, and I don't see anything wrong with him listing it for approximately twice what he paid for it. It could be that he IS ignorant of condition, but you are certainly not obligated to exercise the BIN option. Nor is anyone else. I think the basic problem with your original argument is that anyone who attempts to make a profit on eBay could be called an idiot -- especially those individuals who list a BIN price much higher than the starting bid. Think of it like this -- if someone purchased the card for $550, would you still consider the seller to be an idiot?
