MarkIf any of you live close to New York City or Albany, I'd suggest trying a main library or historical society that has access to City Directories of New York City from the 1860's / 70's. City Directories are like modern phone books, only contain much more personal information. You can track the growth and movement of companies and individuals in virtually every metropolitan area of the United States. Most major institutions will have a collection of City Directories on microfilm. It will take some searching, but much information is out there for those willing to invest the time.
