I think that this topic has been discussed in part previously (though it may have been on Leon's competing board back when there were two boards going).
Generally, I believe that the consensus opinion was that any card in the same year was a rookie card - not just the card from the first set released.
As for your e220 question - good question and one that I was also curious about.
