Jim,

Your the one that is out of touch, from the dealers I speak with, apparently more than 50% of their customers buy ungraded cards. I suppose if it's a card in excess of $200, it's important to buy graded. But otherwise, I would be just as likely to buy an ungraded card from a dealer I know and trust.
