BcD is right about Lefty's, not high class but the right atmosphere for the crowd. Personally, I don't care for the food there. In the city, my favorite places are Cafe Sport which makes a garlic pasta that will leave your breath reeking for days no matter how much you brush and gargle Schroeder's (great German food) and in Oakland/Emeryville, The Gingerbread House (awesome cajun and creole food). Best burger joint is Hot N Hunky.

There is another restaurant next door to Cafe Sport, I think Leaning Tower of Piza, that has a nice vintage baseball display and some awesome osso bucco
