The original dimensions of Yankee Stadium when it was opened in 1923 were larger than the dimensions in the post-war era.
Here are the distances to the stands in the 1920's....

281.....LF foul line

400.....Left-left Center

460.....Left-center Center

490.....Center Field

430.....Right-center Center

370.....Right-right Center

295.....RF foul line


To sluggers, like Ruth and Mantle no distance was long enough. Ruth's longest HR was measured to be 600 feet and Mantle's
longest HR was measured to be 565 feet.

Anyhow, I fully agree with you regarding Ted Williams....he was one of my favorites when I was a kid.
