"Harvard Eddie" signed up as an officer before the U.S. instituted the draft just like Rhys said. He was a lawyer during his time as a player and after he retired in 1914. There should be plenty of court and legal documents with his signature on them filed away somewhere, someplace... If anyone is interested in Eddie Grant I wrote a story about him here:
