For the printing experts out there, do any of you have thoughts on 'scaling' of actual wood blocks for 19th century publications? Here's an example. I have both this Harper's woodcut and an actual woodblock that is identical in feature BUT the sizes are very different (publication is ~2"x9" while block is 1"x5"). I do have a few original metal blocks from the Daily Graphic which are original and the correct size.
My guess is that the actual woodblock was used for another purpose as a letterhead press but could be mistaken. Thanks.
