I picked up one of those Brenn Very pieces as well when they came out...For the time period I think it was done well...

Here is a 1987 Chicago Sun Times press photo and when I got it I thought the very large white border on the bottom was perfect for the Ripken brothers & Carlton Fisk to sign:
