The Sunday edition was known as “The Big Peach.” Garner “Sec” Taylor was the Register’s sports editor for 51 years, from 1914-1965; and Des Moine’s Principal Park, formerly known as Sec Taylor Stadium, is the home of today’s Pacific Coast League Iowa Cubs.
