Anyone know why the bottom seems to have fallen out from underneath this card? Is the Traded version of Ripken Jr. worth the price disparities between his true rookie card and a second addition of a card in the traded set? This logic fails me.

My best guess is that the regular Topps card was produced in much higher quantities than the traded. The PSA populations back this up, and I'd imagine the gap in raw population is even larger. Throw in the fact that collectors do like the "solo" cards better than the combo ones, and I think that's the answer.
It is a pretty significant gap, of course, as you pointed out!
