Default Thinking of putting together a rather crappy T206 set

Posted By: RayB

Dave,
Low grade T-206 collecting is the greatest hobby venture I've ever undertaken.
I'm about 40% complete now on the set in PSA 1,2,3, with over 50% of the HOF'ers.
Collecting in this way, you can still find lots of cards with great eye appeal.
Decide for yourself which flaws bother you least. It is likely that just a couple of flaws you can deal with may technically push the card into the area of "low grade" and present opportunities.
Lastly, look inside the black lines. The image is what matters. Corner and egde wear are so natural with these cards that sharp ones look almost unreal.
Think eye appeal, eye appeal, eye appeal.
It's amazing what you end up with after a bit of time.

Keep in mind that most of my higher grades (a few 4's and 5's) came mostly from self submitting cards with nice eye appeal that graded out 4/5. Otherwise I've tried when buying 1,2,3 to follow my own guidelines for eye appeal. It's the only way the common man has a shot at building "the Monster".

Best of Luck to you.
