Default Tax Axed?

This is weird. I won a card on ebay, and when I went to pay for it, my winning amount was listed plus shipping, nothing else. NO TAX. Remitted payment through PayPal and nothing changed. Still no tax charged. Save for the very early days of ebay's tax collection, this has never happened to me. Since the card was almost $100, it became a 'savings' of $8 or so, which is nice.

Anyone know if this was just a glitch? Or is there a reason for it? The card is out of The Garden State and I'm in CA. There was nothing in the auction description regarding a tax-free certificate or anything along those lines, and I certainly don't have one. Did I just get 'lucky'?? (I know people will say I need to pay a usage tax or whatever, blah, blah, blah, but that's not the point.)
