I wish it was that easy.
I tend to be more emotional about the process (emotional rather than logical).
There are times that I would 'snipe my max' - but heck after I lose.... I still say 'I wish I could put in another bid'.
I am not a fortune teller... and I really don't know how high my max is until I am truly faced with a 'bid again' or 'lose it' decision.
For instance... I probably would have gone a full 50% higher - or maybe more - for this card - if it was sold by an auction house....
