I work in Law Enforcement, both on the road in the past and in the jail. I guess I would need more information regarding the situation. My guess is you would not even be allowed in the secure portion of the jail to speak to the officer. You would need to go to his supervisor or higher to get any dialog going.

Our department does a fair job in training us to help understand the obstacles that we may occur when dealing with the mentally ill. We do training quarterly training that deals with and officers are sent to NAMI every few months on a rotating basis.
