This is an advertising piece that was issued to promote both
Base Ball: 1845-1871, Volume 1 by Seymour Church (usually called "the Church book") and a full-size Waddell picture (presumably without the advertising copy). I was wondering why Church chose Waddell to use (and why he was pitching with Los Angeles after already being in the majors for a few years) and the answer can be found here
https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/rube-waddell/. Basically it was a contract issue coupled with his popularity in California (the book was published in San Francisco).
