I've read a couple of Berra's biographies but they have very little on his war years. I found an MLB.com article relating his war service after reading this:
https://www.mlb.com/news/yogi-berra-...oo/c-151195348. A lot of the players in the armed forces didn't really have to fight and just did promotional work for Uncle Sam or played games on bases far behind the lines. Yogi clearly wasn't one of them.
