Andrew ParksThe ball becomes dead when:
1) The ball is hit foul.
2) A pitched ball hits a batter.
3) The batter reaches on catcher's interference.
4) A batted ball hits a runner.
5) A ball is thrown out of play.
The ball remains live on ball four. A play we sometimes run with my high school team is on a ball four with a runner on third, we send the runner on to second, like Jackie did in the above scenario. It's a great play because the guy either steals second easily or we get the runner in from third when the defense tries to get the batter/runner out at second.
