I have no first hand knowledge for the Braves, but I do know for other clubs, the # on the badge, cap or jacket referred to an assigned employee number. That being said, a lower number would indicate someone hired before a someone who would be given a higher number.
I'm not sure you could date the jackets by the number on the logo alone, but I would love to hear how this theory (you can date the jacket by the number) is explained in an objective manner.
