Julie VognarMy sister sent me a box of BBM '91 Japanese baseball cards (in 1991). I kept them for ten years, and then opened them. No Sasaki rookie, 1 Nomo rookie (o/c). I think, with postage, she spent about $90 on them. I have gotten an album full of japanese cards, though.
When I used to have to accompany my 9-year-old son to the baseball card shop (that's how I got hooked), because he wasn't supposed to carry his $5 allowence, he never bought packs. He always wanted to see what he was getting. My first contribution was a $1 1975 mini Brock. My second, all too soon, was a $20 1955 Jackie Robinson. And so on.
I read recently in VCBC (I'm re-reading them all waiting for a new one) about a gem mint Old Judge that someone pulled out of a pack of cigarettes. What a thrill that must have been. Nobody would meet his reserve. I wonder if he offered the cigarette pack along with the card?
