Is it reasonable that the tag got faded in the wash or something?

Full disclosure, I filed with eBay, and the return was accepted by the seller, so I can return it tomorrow.
But the more I thought about it, it occurred to me that I could get some opinions here.

Tags do get washed out, but without MLB Authentication or a Steiner COA, IMO its not worth keeping, especially for a player like Jeter who is far more likely to be faked. You'd have hard time re-selling if you decided to ever go that route.
