Unfortunately, your quite right about Hollywood....the Kirk Gibson story, or any other "Happy Ending"
story about BB would not be produced.

When I was a kid there were at least 2 to 4 BB related movies every year. The first one I remember
was the "Monte Stratton Story" with Jimmy Stewart.....a true life film of an White Sox pitcher, who
showed a lot of promise, then......rent it, you'll enjoy it.

The last BB movie I saw was "Field of Dreams" and that was back in 1989.
