RIP Johnny Clegg
Died today after a battle with pancreatic cancer. While he only had occasional success here in the US, he was an icon in South Africa. Fought apartheid through music, ditching a comfortable professorship for playing in a bi-racial band, Juluka. His music and the message it contained was always positive and hopeful. A great live performer, he gave an energetic performance even on his final world tour in 2017-18, which I caught at BB King's in NYC.
