Similarly, I graduated in '96. But at the time, music wasn't huge for me, so I'd listen to top-40 and hip hop and whatever dance/rap/R&B was playing in the clubs. After I got married in 2004, something changed and I started listening to more alternative/punk and wish I had started earlier cuz I like a lot of the stuff that came out in the '96-early 2000s timeframe. Fast, melodic, and aggressive. And if it has a good message, all the much better!
