Maris had one monster year, during which time he hit 61 home runs. He never approached that number again. Not even close.
During that season, his hair fell out in clumps. People blamed stress.
He had a reputation for being surly.
If he were playing today and those things happened, he'd be the poster boy for steroid abuse.
