Putting together my first vintage set - 1955 Topps
One of my 2024 goals was to finally put together the 1955 set graded between a 5/6.
Have been able to pick up a majority of the non HOF's pretty easy thanks to eBay, but wanted to ask are there going to be cards that are harder to find then others? |

You'll find that the stars and HOFers are easy to find ( at a price) and the commons are harder to find since the demand is lower so fewer people grade them or put them on ebay.

Graded ? 1955 Topps.
Buy groups and lots , and multiples , otherwise the recent trend towards $4 and $5 " S&H" will waste your card-buying fun money. Use the BST here for mostly free shipping. Keep us all in the loop with the " Pick-ups" , okay. Have fun.

Cards numbered 175, 186, 203, and 209 are super hard to find...
In all seriousness, these numbers do create havoc on your binder organization...I bought the "cards that never were" fantasy cards to fill the holes which was kind of fun. Nothing to hard to actually find, all readily available except as mentioned specific grades for commons will be hard to track down unless subbing yourself. Gil Hodges, Willie Mays, Yogi Berra, and Duke Snider all come at more of a premium due to being in the "high" numbers. The Harry Agganis can be tricky...sad story and I believe this is his only card. Beautiful classic set, one of my favorites...and at 206 cards the commons won't break the bank too bad...have fun and good luck!

Appreciate everyone's feedback, will be heading to a bigger show here in Mass this weekend and will be looking to a trade a few of my bigger modern cards for either a nice Sandy or Clemente.
When it comes to picking up ungraded versions, is there a better tool then just a standard ruler to measuring out cards to ensure they're within spec? |

Get a crummy 55 common that you know hasn't been altered, and use that as your measure.

Yup , this.

.. I use a small stack of nice off-centered original very-low value commons and insert the suspect into the middle of the pile to see how he measures up.Just a thought . ( PS this doesn't work with the '53 Bowman Color because their heights are all over the place , right out of the pack. Widths are uniform though ). .. |

Sleepy Will,
There are some clear plastic tools designed for measuring length, width as well as centering of the image that I have seen for sale in the past on eBay. I have not used them before. |
