What's the Best & Worst looking T206?
Bored, bored, bored! How about this one, what, in your opinion, are the best and worst looking T206's (1 each please) and why if you want.
My votes: Best - Walter Johnson portrait, it looks like Rembrandt painted it. Worst - Spike Shannon, he doesn't even look human with the huge head and the thin, stripey arms.

I'm in....
Best Looking: Matty dark cap:
Worst Looking: Dick Egan -- I always think he looks half-human/half-horse: Edited to add -- the Shannon has amazing background colors that overwhelm the bizarre proportionality of the player. Egan's just an ugly card, with ugly drab colors and an ugly horsey player.

I've mentioned this before.....but before you kill the messenger (in this case "the artist"), please carefully note that Spike really did look like that.

I think you should post a picture of each for those of us who do not know every card.

Egan and a purty T206
Egan was also not an attractive player--when I have the chance I can post the only D381 I own, which happens to be Egan. I lucked into his D381 a few years back, but egad(!) what a face. I think the T206 makes him look relatively acceptable amongst polite society.
I have always been partial to the Leifield pitching pose--I am sucker for sherbert skies, and it has a great pitching pose to boot. If someone doesn't beat me to it, I will post this card too. Brian |

Spike has always been one of my favorite cards from the set for just that reason. It's so odd. Looks like it was drawn by a 6 year old on bring your kid to work day.
The Bender and Walsh portraits have always been favorites of mine. Stephens has an itty-bitty pomegranate head... |

The Lobert and Dougherty portraits (I'm at work, so no scans unless someone wants to help) are among the best and, up there with Shannon and Egan is McLean - drawn by a 8 year old, it seems

Tough to pick the best. There are many good ones. Fielder Jones-hands on hips, comes to mind. Camnitz-arms folded. Reulbach-glove showing. Of course, most of the portraits are really good.
Worst: easy- Spike Shannon 2nd Rube Kissinger |

[QUOTE=T206Collector;830425]Disagree on McLean -- this is one of my favorites because of the very dark blue uni and catcher's equipment. But it is childlike in its rendering to be sure....
Kind of my point- it should be a lot cooler than it is, which is disappointing. |

Whoever mentioned Mike Mowrey is onto something, he is a bizarre looking (nice way of saying really ugly) guy when you see him in photographs as well.
Best--I like Powers, Walter Johnson, and many of the other catcher's gear poses Worst-I can't believe nobody has mentioned Bill "glove on the wrong hand" Burns. I literally HATE that card more every time I see it. -Rhett

Behold the monster lurking within The Monster
Like I mentioned previously, I think the artist did a real good job at making Mr. Egan look as presentable as possible.

laughing
may be the most amusing thread I've come across in my few months on this forum.
Best: agree with many of the already mentioned examples (Chase pink, Cobb bat off shoulder, Dougherty portrait, Jorban batting, Pattee horizontal). What seems to catch my eye are the multi-colored backgrounds on action shots or portraits with unusual solid background colors. One example not yet mentioned is McIntyre brookly & chicago -- nice array of colors / clouds (image not mine). Also noticed that many of the Brooklynites have great backgrounds, and that the red in the Boston jerseys really stands out. Worst: Egan all the way. did a double-take when I first saw it -- wondered if someone at the printing company lost their job for letting that get printed. |

Tough to argue with all the choices for best looking, although I'll add another couple to the list -- Burch, batting and Ames hands at chest.
Also tough to argue with the worst looking ones, although I'll cast my vote for Shannon. |
