OT: Summer Baseball Reading
I just picked up my first baseball book to read this Summer: "Veeck as in Wreck".
I'd be interested in hearing what folks think of this book and also any other suggestions people have for baseball favorites that I (and others) might read this Summer. Thanks, David R |

I plan on checking that one out soon. But for now I've got a long list of books to read. Some on older subjects, some on modern. Anyways, a few that I've read that have really stood out, are "Omar", "Don't Knock the Rock" and "The Curse of Rocky Colavito". Maybe a little Cleveland bias on these, but they should be a flat out good read for anyone. Aside from those, "Bo knows Bo" and "Once a Bum, Always a Dodger" were pretty good. As is "Barnstorming to Heaven" so far, although I'm only about halfway through.

I just finished Bottom of the 33rd by Dan Berry. Wonderfully written and quite beautifully philosophical at times. I highly recommend it to any baseball fan.

Im probably going to read Eight Men out, never have, just seen the movie. Soon, thanks to an awesome Net54 member, I will be starting the T206 collection book too.
Nothing better than an Iced coffee, parked under a shady tree, reading a baseball book or listening to a ball game on the radio |

Don't know if they're currently in print, but two books that I very much enjoyed were, "The Catcher Was a Spy", about Moe Berg and "The Pitch that Killed", about the Mays/Chapman tragedy.

Crazy '08 about the Cubs 1908 season was a fun and interesting read. I'm about 1/3 into 56 right now

Heart of the Game
Read this last year -- loved it -- sad story but a great look into minor league ball and the drive to get to the pros

Just completed "Baseball in the Garden of Eden" by John Thorn and halfway through "Ty and The Babe" by Tom Stanton. Highly recommend both.

For some light summer reading I'll plug my own little journal, the first issue of "21:The Illustrated Journal of Outsider Baseball." The premier issue is "Jewish Baseball Pioneers & Stars" and features 14 original drawings and stories of interesting players that are part of the game's great history...
