Default 1989 Topps Jack Clark

Does anyone know what is going on with this Clark card? Why did they either pain in his hands (and possibly bat) or cut and paste them in from eslewhere?

Is it possible he was wearing a bracelet that reflected the suns rays onto his forearm by his hand? If so, that area would look much brighter.

Very likely a copyright/logo issue that Topps couldn't/wouldn't clear.

Hard to say but it appears that Topps may have edited the same area on his mini leaders card.

His 1988 Fleer Update card seems to show the arm clearly in its unedited state, raising more questions as to why Topps edited it.

Sort of looks like another wristband to me. It just looks weird. Maybe TOPPS thought they could somehow make it better?

Dunno….

The shadows on his arms seem to be going in different directions(?)

I'd guess that he had something written on the his wrist tape they did not want to show. Fleer did a better job of just whiting it out, while Topps went full Rembrandt and painted him a mannequin forearm.

Ebay listing of photo showing what appears to just be solid white tape/wrap

1989 Score also showing just a white wrist band

1989 Topps Talkin/LJN also seems to just show a white wrist band

None of these images make any sense out of Topps' editing. Even the wristband painting on his arm appears to be much bigger than any wrist bands I can find images of him wearning that season.

Could only find a single other image that had the same (whitish) elbow pad coupled with athletic tape or an Ace Bandage around his biceps (and going under the elbow pad), so it's possible it was taken the same day...
