I asked about that picture in the past and the consensus was good. (You can search my old posts if you want to find it).

The ball is most likely good too but there are at least 5 (minor) things wrong with it. The most likely culprit is a bad pen. I guess I would have to see it in hand, but it's more than likely good as well...

I think the signature is fake. Anyone with advanced penmanship skills can forge a Ruth. That ink looks exactly like Rohrer & Klingner Salix ink you can buy on Amazon. It has that same exact vintage tinge to it.

I think the signature is fake.
Please elaborate; please tell us why? (By the way, the signature is 100% real). |

Quote:
2. Abrupt stop at the end of the loop, which is supposed to be a tapered stroke that; 3. connects to the tapered start at the beginning of the "a", so why did the "B" loop ending stop suddenly? 4. Atypically short "b" that barely meets the upper line of the "B." 5. The ending stroke of the "e" is usually in the direction of the first stroke of the "R" and sometimes nearly connects to it, but this one appears to fly off north to nowhere. 6. Considering the ending of the "e", this zig-zag pen drag is atypically low and a bit strange looking and shaky/slowly penned. Like it was planted there to give the illusion of speed. Actually pretty impressed. I mean that. But that signature is nothing more than a slightly rushed example. That's all. It is 100% undoubtedly genuine without question. Most likely signed when someone else was holding it and they were both standing.

It's just my opinion. That signature could very likely be real and it probably is. But unless the signature is on a bank check or legal contract that came directly from a credible source, you can never be 100% sure of any autograph.
