Default 1947-66 Exhibit Collection

I thought I would share my 1947-66 exhibit baseball card collection. Today's mail brought in the Harmon Killebrew portrait card and also Billy O'Dell, which brings my total to 333 out of 350 (which is the number I have been using for a "full" set). I came up with 350 different using the Standard Catalog (I have been told that seven cards listed in the Standard Catalog do not exist).

I have inbound the final card of the four Larry Doby exhibit cards, and maybe I'll post them here after arrival.

Other exhibit card set collectors encouraged to check in.

Here are the card I still need

1947-66 Exhibit Baseball NEED (Ford portrait) Hoak Kranepool (Mantle portrait) (Musial batting) Paige Peters Richardson Runnels (Bill Moose Skowron) Ward Yastrazemski (Dodgers 1956) (Giants 1954) (Indians 1954) (Yankees 1955)

Damn Larry now I am going to have to pull out what I believe to be my complete set, count them and check the catalog variations you mention.

Someplace I have detailed list of my "set" with printing notations etc.

Well done Larry. The Exhibits have grown on me over the years, so much so I wish I had started a set, or sub-set by team, or something, years ago. I really like the Musial with bats. I need to find mine and post it here! I also need to get more organized

intertesting Mark I would like to see your checklist. The cards I listed as do not exist comes from another advanced collector like yourself. I looked at the Luke Appling card. All the ones listed on Ebay have "AN EXHIBIT CARD" Appling was included in the 1939-46 Salutation set and all those do not have "AN EXHIBIT CARD". Can you post a scan of your Luke Appling cards one with AN EXHIBIT CARD and the other without. THX

I have to ask a basic question for those of us who don't collect this stuff, is that scratched out variation literally scratched out physically on the card (which could obviously be scammatically - new adverb to indicate an action done by a scammer - done to trick people), or was it printed with the 'scratch out' in the image itself?

Here's the Musial I was looking for. My favorite Musial photo. Some of the Exhibit photo's were very good, including my favorite Ruth!

Agree Jerry, some of the exhibit photos are very nice! Here is the "Printed In USA" version to go with your "MADE IN THE USA" version. The Musial "Batting" version is one of the cards I still need.

Lou Burdette, what a 1957 World Series he had!! He is one of those guys with cards in the mid-1960's Topps sets, with no cap on, that as a kid I thought he looked like he was 60-70 years old! I couldn't figure out why he was still able to play baseball! Smokey Burgess comes to mind too Great cards Larry!

When Milwaukee won the 1957 World Series against the Yankees, Burdette became the first pitcher in 37 years to win three complete games in a series, and the first since Christy Mathewson in 1905 to pitch two shutouts (Games 5 and 7), starting Game 7 after Games 1 and 4 starter Warren Spahn was stricken by the flu.

Lew appeared on Topps regular cards for 12 straight years 1956-1967, and on only two cards does he appear without a hat

Craig I've never heard of this Canadian version of the Mantle exhibit card. The Standard Catalog lists 4 Mantle cards, here are 3 of them as I still need the "portrait".
