Default Gloom , Doom , And Discomfort :The 1952 Topps Pictures Day

.

..Smiles were just not to be found because by sheer co-incidence Topps Photos Day in 1952 , fell in the middle of the widespread hemorrhoid pandemic .

Pics could have been taken right after they were told what they would be paid for use of their likeness. It took until 1968 for Marvin Miller to fix that

Sometimes they had great alternatives like choosing a set of golf clubs. I have a few old card contracts and was amazed at what they got compensated for the use of their image. Anyone know what players get now from the card companies?

That's pretty funny! Grouping the cards together can really put it into perspective.

Also quite the contrast to the '53 Bowman color set in which many of the players are smiling or look to be in a good mood.

I'm sure the OP's post was just a fun type of post and wasn't alluding that all the players in the set look grumpy/miserable, but there are lots of smiling faces throughout the 52 Topps set as well.

Nice cards Dale. How close are you to completing the set? I remember you were close.

Still the same 2, Ben. Wilhelm and Mathews.
I haven't been aggressively trying to find/obtain them but I do still keep my eye out for them.
Someday, hopefully.

Ah, great cards and excellent post showing you'll find quite the contrast right within the '52 set. Nice!

Absolutely, and if you notice, since my collection is listed alphabetically, I only made it to the C's before I ran out of posting room.
I don't know the ratio within the set of who (in someone's opinion) looks grumpy as opposed to smiling but I'd hazard to guess the possible grumpy looking photos are only around 10%?

I must have missed this, Chris Van Cuyk, one as I think he has the "most" smiling pic in the set?
