Default Did you meet or beat your 2012 goals?

I remembered a post from late last year about collecting goals for the year: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...ght=2012+goals

Mine were:

Well, I got to 60% so I'm definitely happy. How did you do?

Good question. I definitely added way more than I should have to my collection.

I agree with Leon. I finished my T206s (520) and have made great progress in getting them out of the really, really low grade range. I have yet to define my next real challenge and honestly am stepping back to see what it really should be. I guess, truth be told, I might look to thin my collection next year and start the Magie fund.

Hey if you start thinning that collection bb, we've done nice business in the past.

My 2012 was basically the start of all this craziness. Glad to have joined and glad to have found this board and reclaimed my joy and happiness with card collecting again which was gone for so long.

Here is most of my post from last year:

Also venturing down the path of pre-war type cards. Still in the wandering around phase on that.

Everyone have a great Holiday Season!
Success:
I got to 519 t206's (can't believe I only added 3 new t206's to my collection this year), completed t205 hofers (no variations), now have all 4 Ruths, and picked up a t206 Demmitt stl.

Pre-war type cards: I guess this goes under "success" - Defined a target, made a lot of progress, re-defined my target, sold some cards, come to think of it, I'm probably still wandering around a bit here! I guess that's one of the beauties of type collecting.

Not yet: still need 3 e120 hofers, still waiting for the right O'Hara stl

Looks like I stuck to this, focused on the errors and a few rarebacks.

I told myself that in 2012 I was going to do my best at not adding any more T206's to my collection. While I was tempted to pull the trigger a few times (especially on B/S/T), I somehow had the will power to not do so although there are still a few weeks left in the year

Other than that, I wanted to focus my efforts on acquiring rarely seen 19th century woodcuts as well as possibly picking up an original Prang or Hastings print. I'm happy to say that I've been able to do all 3 and definitely one of my strongest collecting years!

I think this year was the first one since 2006 where I did not pick up a signed T206 pose that I had not previously owned.

But I did pick up a signed T201 Leifield from Jefferson Burdick's collection; and a nice signed T205 Blackburne.

...Still, the prospect of keeping my signed T206 collection active these days has found me turning to buying 1950s Topps cards. Go figure...

I exceeded my goal by a large margin. I started a T206 set and initially only planned on adding 50 cards this year. I currently sit at 71, including my first Cobb.

I set loose goals, and didn't really accomplish anything other than adding to my HOF rookie collection. Had some nice finds on poorly-listed or mis-listed items. My first year of fantasy baseball also sent me into an un-planned modern kick, but I did manage some great finds there as well.. And ultimately found that 1 deal that forced me to bite on the comic-bug that I had been hoping to avoid..

Much like most here, I added way more than I originally planned, and deviated quite far from that plan as well. However, I'm very happy with the collecting year that I had..

Judging by the way this year went. I think my loose goals for next year, are to just keep it going..

Default My response to last years question was

Didn't finish anything.

Don't know that I ever will.

Not even sure how I would know I was finished if I did finish.

That's part of the fun.

I've set a new goal before the end of the year. 300 posts.

Yah.

I wasn't a member of the board to announce them but my goals where to:
1 Collect what ever I found that gave me the warm n' fuzzies...
2 Make a real dent in the T206 chase. I have added 105 so far in 2012
3 Soak up as much of Net 54 goodness (once I joined) as possible
4 Sucessfully slide 12 credit card statements past the wife without ending up in Divorce Court.

I am happy to say that I am 4 for 4.

I finished my T206 set (518/518) and my W512 baseball series set.

I also started a T206 Hindu Southern League subset, a T207 HOF subset and kinda sorta started a HOF set.

I didn't really have any 'set goals' other than to just try to fill in the holes and sell off more cards to fund other purchases/upgrades.

That being said, this was my best year in collecting to date. I picked up signed rookies/cards I would have never imagined getting in my wildest dreams, or to even have an autograph of that player in itself.

So, it was a hell of a year, too much spent though

I only got back into the hobby in late May/early June. At the time I set out on a quest for a T205 set and a 48' leaf set. But in the 6 months since then, I've had some series hobby ADD.

T205 - 24 and counting
48' Leaf - dropped

Then I quickly picked up an interest in a D322 Tip Top Bread set as well as took aim at T209 Photo Series.

T209 - 15 and counting
D322 - dropped

I've explored and researched quite a lot, thought about and debated some other goals, sets, subsets, etc that I haven't brought myself to commit to yet, but there is always 2013!!

But I condsider 2012 to be a definite win for me, I got back into a hobby I enjoy, discovered collecting vintage, got involved here on the board and learned a lot!

Pretty good year went in hoping for one 1924 Diaz Indian and came out with three.

Got a bunch of my harder types done; 1930 Baguer Chocolate - Tolson, T209-2 Swindell, 1963 Schieble Press - Altobelli, 1946 Propagandas Montiel - Wolff and even my latest find for a 1957 Cleveland Indians Team Issue -Stan Pitula

I'm probably happiest though with my 1972 Puerto Rican Winter League Stickers of Mike Warren Jackson since it was the last big hurdle I had to getting my streak done (Every single Cleveland Indian player since September 18th 1971 (Last pitching appearance for Bob Kaiser) has a baseball card

Very good year here

As a matter of fact, I exceeded my collecting and personal goals. Got my E121 cards displayed, added to my E121 collection, started a W572 collection. On the personal side, I regained enough function to get my drivers license back after my spinal stroke that occurred 2 years ago. Hopefully back to veterinary medicine in the next year.

I wrote: "No plans for the future; what I collect is too odd to plan on. If it surfaces, it surfaces."

I fulfilled those expectations.

Richard,

I was told I would never walk again by the Drs at Mayo clinic in Minnesota. Have steadily proved them wrong. Been an uphill battle but I continue to slowly improve. All the power of positive thinking and ime. Kept my bet license current all the way through. Miracles do happen with mother Nature's help. I have also had much encouragement from several board members who check on me periodically. I want to make my 2013 goal a reality and thank you for your kind words.

Ken

Exceeded my goal and got to 520 on the T206 set!
Also added a nice T205 Joss (wasn't a goal - but on my 'someday' list.
