Default **** COMPLETE E103 set -- Now available in Goodwin auctions! ****

I had plans to keep the entire group around a little longer, but there are some cards in upcoming auctions I'd like to create a little financial breathing room for. So I suppose I'll need to go retrieve this group from the safe deposit box and see if there's any interest in this set here on BST...

On the whole, this would be a very significant acquisition for any collection. Most of the cards, including Wagner and Cobb, are still relatively nice looking although there are a few beaters in the group as well. The group with the bright red backgrounds, makes for an attractive set as a whole. Several of the HOFers are still very nice and the Cobb (which is creaseless) would be a serious candidate for a regrade as I think this example could easily get into a 40 holder. A complete player list with condition/grades is as follows --

Bender SGC 10
Brown TRM - small spot of damage in corner
Bresnahan PR - creasing
Chance SGC 10
Chase PSA AUT - obvious TRM but very sharp card
Cobb PSA 2 mk - gorgeous card for a "2" and I don't see any reason for the "mk" qualifier
Collins PR - creasing
Crawford GD - corner wrinkle
Davis PR - wrinkling
Devlin PSA 1
Donovan SGC AUT - rare handcut example with oversized borders
Dooin PR - creasing/heavy corner wear
Doyle FR - small wrinkles
Ewing SGC 10
Gibson GD - corner crease
Jennings GD - mild residue on front
Jones GD - VGish on front, writing on back
Jordan SGC 10 - crease/corner wear
Lajoie TRM - wrinkle through face
Lord FR - wrinkling
Leach SGC AUT - very sharp card
Matty SGC 10
McLean SGC 30
McQuillan PR - creasing/heavy corner wear
Pastorious FR - wrinkling
Rucker PR - edge wear/creases
Tenny SGC AUT
Thomas PR - missing piece of top border
Wagner PSA 1
Wood FR - pinhole

I went online and tried to research fair value prices on recent sets/near-sets that have sold at auction. I actually didn't find many comparable groups at all and no complete sets since 2007 - which is a strong indication of how truly difficult it is to complete this set. Here is a small list of what my research did turn up for groups of this size.

A group of 27/30 cards sold for $13.065 in 2012 REA (minus Cobb, Wagner and Matty)
http://www.robertedwardauctions.com/.../2012/262.html

Group of 20/30 cards sold for $14,100 in 2010 REA (minus Cobb)
http://www.robertedwardauctions.com/...2010/1695.html

Complete set sold for $21796 in 8/31/2007 Mastro (Cobb and Wagner are same grade as mine)
http://www.legendaryauctions.com/Lot...entoryid=74129

Complete set sold for $25351 in 10/2006 Mastro
http://www.legendaryauctions.com/Lot...r-Set-(28%2f30)

Open to trade offers or would sell the group for $19,500 even, which I feel is a lower price than any of the groups above given the cards involved. Plenty of scans available upon request.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Wish my pockets were deep enough, buddy! The one thing I really appreciate about this set is, although a low grade set, there doesn't seem to be any real beaters in the group and they all present quite nicely. Best of luck in this sale for sure!!!

Will give this set a one-time bump/price drop to $19,500 which I feel is a nice deal given where similar lots have ended up the past few years. I'll hang on to the group until the end of the week, if no takers, I'll either set this one aside or consign over to an auction house.

Thanks for the consideration,
Brian

Guys, thank you for the kind words, they're very much appreciated!

Ethan, I do still have both Tenney's. A scan is below. I'm including the nicer, graded one in with the set. But honestly, I could probably be sweet-talked into including both, heh! I'd also sell one individually if you wanted it.

Glenn, very nice chatting with you the other day, was a pleasure meeting you and good luck with all those top-tier HOFers you're after!

Thanks Jimi,

Yes, Bill was kind enough to send every raw card in for grading. Very generous of him I thought. Not sure if that's commonplace with auction houses although I do remember Barry Sloate being extremely generous and doing that for me a few times as well.....

Barry and Daryl, thank you for the support and kind words!

Barry, it's definitely been a minute since we've chatted. I believe I owe you a "catch-up" call, sir! Hope all has been well with you!
