Default T206 Piedmont Back "Curved Gap"

Certainly not a huge deal but I'm curious if anyone has or has seen a Pied 350 with the same curved gap above the "P" where blue ink normally runs. Also interested in any causal theories you printing experts may have. I have inspected the card closely and am pretty sure this is not mere paper loss.

The subject is Killian (Portrait). Thanks in advance for the input.

A hair? Not bad . . . anyone else?

And I'm also interested to know if anyone else has a card with the same pattern.

Heck, I'll even send $5 and a "mystery" card to the first person who can show me another one (by "one" I mean a card with the same curved gap in the same place).

I agree that it was probably a hair or something on the plate.

Anatomically the curved gap means different things to different people.

I found a "fuzzy" picture with a similar ink-gap in a very close proximity. Here is the link and what I see.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fW8Exw-_ud...0/scan0019.jpg

On the left of the picture I transposed the position of this "mark" compared to yours. Close but not exact. I will keep looking.

If you have a more detailed scan of your card I would be happy to investigate more.

Scot, here's a group of Killians with the same mark, I would guess that it
was likely a flaw on the plate.

Here is another Killian Portrait. But, I think the P or whatever it is may have been added later.

Patrick,

Do you have a sense of what FRACTION of Killian Portrait Pied 350s have the curved gap?

Have you seen any subjects OTHER THAN Killian Portrait with this feature?

I think answers to the above questions might tell us something about sheet composition.

Thanks.

I looked at 170 and found 6, a number of them were probably repeats so
I would say in the 1 in 20-25 range.

Default Hi Scot

I would venture to say that this "curved gap" printing phenomena is unique to the Killian (portrait) card.

I went thru my T206 Piedmont set (519 different cards). Plus, an additional assortment of 112 Piedmont
cards (from the three Series) and no such printer's gap is evident on any of these cards.

Incidently, my Killian does not have it.

Hi Ted,
Thanks for taking the time to peruse your cards for the gap. It may well be a Killian-only phenomenon. On the other hand, I can imagine the gap being found on the backs of other subjects that occupied the same column and row as Killian on other T206 sheets.

Scott, I haven't found a match to the Killian but I did find a Brain and Ganzel
that look like they were in the same position on different sheets. They both
have the same mark that looks like a funky tilde plus are missing ink in the
same places. So there is a chance that there is another player with the same
mark as your Killian.

Hey Pat. I've seen that on a few Ganzels. Definitely the same back plate was used.

If it was a hair it may have been longer than you see. Maybe it went over to the "t" in Piedmont on the next card.

Hi Chris, I had seen it on a quite a few Ganzels also but hadn't noticed it
on any brains until recently, but there was one on ebay last week besides
this one in the scan.

Jason, your scan came out bigger than mine, all of the Ganzels and brains
with this mark have missing ink in part of the o in of and spot under the e in subjects where I have the red arrows. your scans show this clearer.

As a result of Pat's heads up (and knowledge), I thought I would post another example of the T206 Killian portrait with a 'curved gap' on back.
