Default "Alcan" Premium Photos from late '70s or early '80s

I recently picked up this blank-backed 8x10 premium photo of Tom Seaver, with the "Alcan" logo in the lower right corner. According to Wikipedia, Alcan was an aluminum company in Canada. I'm a long time Seaver collector but have never even heard of this premium, or any other photos from Alcan. Have any of you seen any Alcan photos before? Is the Seaver part of a larger set? And why in the world would an aluminum company in Canada issue photos of baseball players (or just Seaver)? Any information you can provide about this photo would be greatly appreciated.

Also, would you folks recommend removing the annoying PSA/DNA sticker that was stupidly placed on the front of the photo? Is it likely to leave a mark? Thanks.

Hi Paul,

I am an oddball type collector and I've never seen any premium from Alcan before.

Since Seaver is pictured as a Red, I'd guess it was issued during the 6 years he was actually a Red. A quick Google of the company shows that it was headquartered in Montreal, so it could be from a personal appearance Seaver made for the company in Montreal when the Reds appeared there.

Just a guess. Great find.

Thanks Mike. That makes a lot of sense. I'll see if anyone else chimes in who has seen one before.

Paul
