How can this WaJo be a Type 1 with the Harris and Ewing printing in the corner? Wouldn't that disqualify it as a Type 1? It also seems strange that the tag and stamping on the back is Brown Bros. and not H&E. PSA slabbed it, so presumably it was OK with Henry, but I have my doubts. And what's up with the crazy price?

Brown bros was a repository and archive for photographs from all sorts of photographers, not just their own.

Looks like a good Studio photo to me. Looks like they placed the Harris and Ewing imprint on a piece of glass in that bottom corner of the negative when they made the print rather then opt for an embossed or a blind stamp imprint, or scrawl directly in the negative itself.

As has been alluded to already, Brown Bros. cannibalized lots of other photographers archives during that time period. Kept some of the originals and copied many of the originals along the way. Rarely took their own photos in my experience. A Brown Bros. stamp is not really a clue of Photo type at all.

I think Dave's right. It's a tough call to make when the identifying info is not hand-scrawled into the negative itself but this looks like some sort of transparent labeling on the negative itself. I am guessing that the ciarity of the portrait tipped the balance in favor of it being a print from a negative.

Besides, it's all marketing bullshit anyway
