Default REA Marketplace

what do people think of the latest postings to the Marketplace. It seems to have become everything that REA auctions is not….signed non-game used memorabilia? Sellers are flooding the marketplace with cheap Fanatics signed jerseys, helmets, and modern cards. A little surprised that REA isnt policing this better, or maybe can create separate marketplaces for this kind of stuff?

Aside from that, the Marketplace can be a useful tool and market for the kind of stuff this board collects and is typically found in their auctions. I was enjoying checking in to see what is available there but now i am wading through so much stuff of no interest.

They do have a filter option which could help.

Of course! Thanks. I was trying to just use the last posting to see what was new, and it wasnt working anymore with this other stuff being posted voluminously.

Still, there has to be a better forum for selling signed unused helmets than REA.

I use the "newest listing" sort to view items also. And yeah, someone recently flooded the marketplace with tons of signed 1980s baseball cards and, like you said, jerseys, helmets, whatever. Definitely a lot of stuff that's probably of little interest to REA's usual clientele and a worse browsing experience.

Based on your post, I was about to recommend that REA add a filter. But it turned out they already had one (which I didn't know before today).

How about a "Marketplace Lite" with a different URL to keep such things in their place? That would be great. www.bric-a-brac.biz seems to be available.

A person looking to buy a Blake Bortles mini helmet saying to themselves, "Hmm, maybe I'll also grab a Home Run Kisses" just doesn't seem in the cards, or vice versa. Then again, this strategy of selling everything under a singular umbrella worked for eBay, so there's that very proven track record and my observations are completely incorrect.

There’s always been a fear that it will just turn into another eBay museum. Or maybe filled with stuff that distracts from the core market. And it sounds like some of these new additions might not be helpful that way.

Personally, I’ve had good success with selling stuff on the platform, including a sale just last week at the $2,250 level. Took a little negotiating, but after a little back and forth, the buyer decided to come up to my price, after I came down 10%.

The Marketplace has been OK for me. One of my items ended up in the showcase at the National and that worked well. That said, if the rates go up I am not likely to send stuff there instead of eBay; for all its foibles, the market penetration of eBay just cannot be beat.
