I came across these in a scrapbook. The Foxx is still partially attached. These are advertising card for the Alhambra Theatre in Philadelphia. The movie "Honky Tonk" was released about September 1929. Both cards have the same shows listed back.
Has anyone seen these before or can shed some additional light on them? |

Nice. Thank you. I did not notice the Alhambra listed as one of the theatres.

I have seen a few of these cards in the past but I do not remember seeing an Alhambra Theater before.
You may have stumbled on a new variety. Nice Find! Bob |

Very cool. You may want to post these on the main board for additional comment. One thing I noticed is the dates on the back, which promoted movie showings that occurred before the 1929 World Series was played. It therefore seems that hobby sources stating that these were issued to commemorate the A's World Series win that year are inaccurate, since that had not yet happened.
On the nitpicky side, I see where they spelled October wrong on the final movie listing. ![]()

No, not on the cards. But I did find that the Becker Brothers did not own the Alhambra Theatre or the Lindy, Benn, Orient or Villa. Here's a blurb from Co-Pilot:
No, the Becker Brothers did not own the Alhambra Theatre in Philadelphia. The Alhambra was originally launched by Frank Migone in 1911, but he sold it within two months to William W. Miller of the Wm. Penn Theatre chain. By 1941, it was operated by Warner Bros. Circuit Management Corp, and it closed in 1952. The Becker Brothers were active in South Philadelphia’s theater scene, but their known venues included the Becker Theatre (later Stratford Theatre) and the Venice Theatre—not the Alhambra. The Alhambra Theatre was not part of the 1929 Becker Brothers promotional campaign tied to the Philadelphia Athletics World Series win. According to verified sources, the five theaters involved in distributing the commemorative baseball card set were: Becker Brothers Theatre Lindy Theatre Benn Theatre Orient Theatre Villa Theatre The Alhambra, while a notable Philadelphia venue, does not appear in any documentation related to this specific promotion. The verified source is most likely TCDB. The release dates for the films are as follows: The Flying Marine... June 5, 1929 Honky Tonk... August 31, 1929 The Rainbow Man... May 16, 1929 Weary River... February 10, 1929 Last edited by wpeters; 09-25-2025 at 08:34 AM. Reason: Additional Information |

Which doesn't actually qualify as verified.
No comment on co-pilot. |
