What has me excited about this board is that it is my favorite era for collecting. This is because it is the era when I grew up in. As a kid I started collecting at age 4 and loved my cards more than anything. It is no exaggeration to say that I knew every player on every team, their batting averages, height, weight, rbis etc etc etc. |

Jim, done deal...I read the article about you on the PSA website and some of those pics of your hobby room are incredible...and to think that those are all PSA 8 and up makes it even more incredible. |

I agree with Jim about the love for postwar cards. Cards you collected as a kid have a special place on one's heart, never to be replaced. My first set ordered from Renata Galasso was the 1978 Topps set. Just about worthless but to me it marked my serious entry (ha!) into the card collecting world. I also have strong memories of getting tons of Topps packs for my birthday in 1974 and praying to get an Aaron. Anyone feel that way about Bonds today? |

Yup- I got a box of cards in '71 for my Bday and was really hoping for Bench, my favorite player at the time. Seems so long ago...... |

I agree with the comments that have been made. To me, Julio Gotay is the all-time greatest ballplayer, due solely to my purchase as a 10 year old of a pack with his 1968 Opeechee card. |

Postwar seems to be more affordable for most collectors and many of my customers are Postwar collectors, I stick with the more tradition prewar cards which is what made me come to this website. It’s only been six months as a member but what a lot of changes - two new forums and everything else that goes with it. What a ride it has been talking and posting this year. |

"Jay, one of our mutual friends paid you the ultimate comment the other day, saying that if he had to trust one dealer in the country to never alter cards it would be Jay Wolt--the most honest dealer in the hobby." |

There aren't any postwar forums that are no-holds-barred. CU must have a 'bot that roams its chat boards looking for critical posts and zapping them, SGC isn't much of a forum and...that's the whole ball of wax. |

Yeah, this site is like the dirty little secret of the VBC site: so many of us have postwar interests...but can barely talk about it on the main board without fear of being 'outed.' As much as I love my 'postwar' favorite cards, i.e., Koufax rookie, etc., you just can't beat the cards that you collected as a kid. So, at least for us, we're stuck with those cards being the 60s and 70s varieties -- which I'm happy to have. How great was baseball in the mid-70s when the Reds and Dodgers and Phillies were tops in the NL? |

I agree Jim. I figured this forum would get some attention but it's getting a ton. At some point Leon will have to give us a daily hit count from both forums. Maybe even the CU board people will jump ship. |
